A Thanksgiving List

Today is Thanksgiving, and what a truly special holiday it is. It is one holiday not overrun by commercialism and greed. It is not about gifts or glamour. It remains a relatively simple tradition of gathering around a table with friends and family to enjoy a wonderful feast designed to fill our tummies and our hearts, and to simply give thanks. What a concept. A day to stop and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives.

I wish I had something more original and eloquent to say, but those two simple words, “thank you,” seem to say it all. Even when I wish some things in my life were different and that somewhere along the line I had made some different choices, I try always to keep a grateful heart and to thank God for all that I have and all that I am. I try to remember that even those darker hours and those many missteps in life have brought me to where I am today. I believe that one of the most powerful prayers we can say is simply, “Thank you.”
So I am offering up a weekend list a little early in honor of the holiday.

List the things for which you are thankful

When I pray today and give thanks, my list of things to be thankful for may not be anything earth shattering, but it is a list that has much in common with so many others, yet is also uniquely MINE. For these things, I am thankful:

  • A family whom I genuinely like and love, and who like and love me back
  • A husband who supports me and loves me
  • A beautiful, healthy baby girl who makes my heart burst with joy EVERY SINGLE DAY
  • In-laws who are generous and kind
  • Wonderful memories of loved ones lost, and the belief and faith that we will see them again one day
  • Friends who care
  • A job that challenges me
  • Enough money to have all of the necessities and some of the luxuries of life
  • An outlet for my creativity
  • The technology that allows me to keep in touch with my family when I am far away
  • A lifetime of love and laughs and reasons to smile

So Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, and not a day goes by that I don’t say “thank you” for having you all in my life. I will pray, like I do every day, that God keeps you healthy, safe, and happy.

  5. Kelly says:

Thanks for the compliments, everyone! I hate photos of myself, and this one is no exception (I sort of have a deer-in-the-headlights kind of look, no?)– but I thought the Muffin looked cute and you can see the turkey on her outfit!

  6. Irene says:

Just got caught up-to-date on your blog since my computer was glitched for a couple of weeks. You are oh so sweet. All I could say is “Thank God for YOU!”.
